Interview with Dan Morrow

Tell me a bit about yourself…. I live in Columbus, Ohio. I’ll be

married 30 years in August 2022 and have two children, a daughter,

28, and a son, 24.

What genre/s do you write in? Christian Fiction

How long have you been writing? I’ve been writing in one form or

fashion all my life. I feel more comfortable writing than talking,

honestly.

Do you have any published books or articles? Tell me a bit about

these and what publishing route you took. I have two published

books – the first, The Secret of Silverkeep; and the second, A

Heartbeat in Danger. I used Covenant Publishing for my first book

and Christian Faith Publishers for the second one.

Did you use an editor? If so who? I did all self-editing, which is not

always the best idea.

Did you use a book formatter and cover designer? On my first book,

the publisher came up with the cover through my suggestions. The

second one, I sent a mock-up of what I wanted and they improved

on the original idea.

Did you self-publish or get traditionally published? How did this go

for you? It was a form of self-publishing through those companies.

It took some time to go through the process and ensure everything

was set to my preference. It got frustrating at times, but

aggravation is expected in any process.

How do you market your work and promote your brand? (Include

links) Currently, I can be found on Facebook, LinkedIn, Alignable

What social media and writing platforms would you recommend? I

suggest looking for author groups on Facebook. There are several

quality groups to join.

Do you use an agent? Not currently.

Do you use paid advertising? If so what? I haven’t been able to

take advantage of this yet, but continually look for these

opportunities,

Do you have a blog or website? Not currently.

What inspires you most to write? There are stories to be told I have

not discovered yet. I need to keep searching for them in my

imagination.

What do you do to help with writer’s block? Step away from the

keyboard for a time, distract myself with household chores, or take

a walk. It’s good to give your brain a rest from the work.

How do you plan your writing and start? It usually starts with an

idea. Then I’ll write out a sentence or two describing the overall

idea of the story. From there, its choosing characters, settings, etc.

Then I just start writing.

Is writing your full-time job? If not what else do you do? I just

recently left my day-to-day job to become a full-time author.

What are you working on at the moment? I have a few projects I’m

writing for other people lined up that I will be working on

throughout the year.

What is your target audience? Writing from a faith-based

perspective, anyone who desires to view faith from a slightly

different perspective. This could include those who don’t attend

church on a regular basis.

How long does it take you to write a book? A few years ago, I was

able to complete four manuscripts in three months. Granted, these

are not finished works, but I completed them. It depends on the

direction of the story and if any unexpected twists come along as I

write.

When did you first discover you enjoyed writing? When I was very

young, I would sit down and write out my thoughts, kind of

journaling what I was dealing with, or how I viewed the world

around me. From there, it expanded into writing complete stories.

What is your writing schedule look like? With the projects I have

lined up, I will be busy over the next several months. Each day is

filled with writing.

What does your family think about you writing? My mother was

the one who encouraged me to write. My wife is in full support of

this dream and has been my rock during this process.

What do you do when you are not writing? Spending time with

friends and family as much as possible.

Where do you get information and ideas for your writing? With the

internet readily available, information is a touch away. As for ideas,

they come from anywhere – a conversation, a sermon, thoughts

that drift through my mind. It can literally happen at a moments’

notice at the most unexpected times.

What do you think makes a good story? The premise; a subject

people can relate to; emotions that everyone has experienced;

good characters that you come to enjoy and want to read more

about them; unexpected twists and turns to the plot; a satisfying

ending
