Today I have the honor of interviewing a Prince, of Piedmont origin like me, a descendant of the ancient family of the Amato of Sciacca barons, coming from Catalonia, Spain, a family that arrived in Italy in the 13th century, whose progenitor, Pagano, also wore the surname Folch de Cardona of Empuries, related to the d'Angiò and the Aragon, the Hohenstaufen and the Altavilla.

Prince Roberto D'Amato is passionate about history, he has written several books and texts, including "The nepotism of the Popes between the Middle Ages, the Protestant reform and the Counter-Reformation", "The Knights of Malta between myth and reality", "The Savonarola, the rebel monk". Currently graduating from the Faculty of Law for personal passion, he is interested in history, art, and politics.

Let's try to understand what it means today to have a noble title and, in particular, what nobility means, too often confused with having privileges and economic well-being, how noble principles could be re-evaluated for the whole society, in a new democratic sense.

1) Good afternoon, what does it mean today to be a prince in Italy and in the world?

Being a prince means being humble, serving the people, having greater responsibility, working harder than others to lead by example. It does not mean having privileges.

2) What are the noble principles that your family has passed on to you and which you believe should be the basis of everyone's education?

The noble principles that my family passed on to me are honor, courage, fidelity, respect for traditions in a democratic and pluralist context, meritocracy, which is not always implemented in Italy, respect for all people and for all jobs, as long as they are honest.

3) Being noble should mean firm moral principles, excellent education towards everyone, good culture. We know that it has not always been, and it is not always the case. What can arouse noble ideals in the population and what could be used to spread a type of education based on noble principles?

The ethics of good brought to the highest levels convey positivity.

Recover certain values that the heroic bourgeoisie has caused to fall into oblivion, patronage, the culture that the bourgeoisie has linked to purely economic aspects, a redistribution of wealth by the large economic concentrations that have impoverished the community and destroyed the middle class, which represents the fulcrum of democracy, enhance the culture of the people as a wealth of the nation. As Empress Maria Teresa said, a strong culture makes the nation rich.

4) You have founded a party. Tell us what are the three basic moral principles for your party.

I founded a party to try to create social harmony, to propose social capitalism with a human face, to give a sense of national identity since the Republic is not always able to face this globalized society subjected to the unelected Brussels bureaucrats.

5) Can a new concept of nobility exist today?

The concept of nobility must be carried forward in an enlightened, constructive sense, establishing solidarity between social classes, because united we win, while social conflict weakens society. Participation in social issues can re-evaluate the discourse of the nobility.
